Medical error in anesthesia

Each surgery requires some kind of anesthesia to make the patient insensitive to pain, so firstly patients must be subjected to an anesthetic examination.

At the end of the preoperative visit, the anesthesiologist and the patient will sign the anesthesia consent form together.

This procedure ensures that the risks associated with the intervention are minimal for the patient, provided that the relative protocol is followed, since there are several anesthetic techniques, each one with its own characteristics.

General or total anesthesia is an artificial sleep produced by drugs and makes the patient unconscious and insensitive to pain, whereas local anesthesia is used in the case of interventions that affect small portions of the body.

Spinal or lumbar anesthesia is used for interventions in the lower abdomen and lower limbs, as well as in the case of caesarean section; finally, epidural anesthesia can be used for abdominal and thoracic interventions or for the lower limbs.

Like any other medical action, anesthesia involves the acceptance of certain risks related to the patient's health and related to the type of surgery to be performed.
